Autumn menu photography Sussex: Capturing the Season in Hospitality
It's the time when the leaves begin to turn, the jumpers come back out and the evenings start drawing in. For restaurants, it’s an exciting time for chefs. Harvest season brings an abundance of new ingredients to work with, new menus start taking shape and, before long, thoughts turn towards the busy festive period.
Some of my favourite restaurant photography happens away from the dining room. I love capturing chefs at work, whether they’re making pasta from scratch, garnishing a dish with intricate detail, braising over an open flame or preparing ingredients in the kitchen.
Capturing seasonal dishes
Autumn menu photography in Sussex brings its own visual character too. Think hearty dishes, warming puddings and Sunday roasts with all the trimmings. Alongside photographing the food itself, I like to capture the personality of a restaurant, from the table setting and interiors to the people enjoying the space.
Showing the restaurant beyond the plate
Restaurant photography should give people a sense of what it would actually be like to visit. The food is an important part of that, but so are the people, the surroundings, the atmosphere and everything that happens behind the scenes.
