Handmade ceramic tableware was the focus of this shoot, styled in a minimal lifestyle setting to highlight form, texture and use.
My approach was to create a minimal, lifestyle-led scene that allowed the pieces to feel considered but still natural. Rather than filling the frame with props, I wanted to use a small number of carefully selected ingredients and objects to suggest how someone might live with and use these pieces in their own home. To build the scene, I styled the ceramic pieces with olives, tomatoes and slices of cheese to create a subtle Mediterranean influence. I kept additional styling simple, introducing a sprig of eucalyptus alongside a few homeware elements including a wooden chopping board, linen tea towel and knife to add texture and variation without distracting from the ceramics themselves.

Styling product photography often feels similar to composing a painting. Each object is chosen intentionally and placed for a reason, whether that is to create balance, guide the eye through the frame or help tell a story. In these images, small details such as scattered pistachio shells helped add texture and introduced a subtle human presence, creating the feeling that someone had just stepped away from the table.
I also like introducing a human element into lifestyle product photography, sometimes through gesture alone. A hand reaching into a scene or interacting with an object can help draw attention to the piece and communicate its tactile quality. Whilst these images are relatively minimal in styling, I wanted to create breathing space within the compositions, allowing the ceramics to remain the focus rather than competing with too many props. By working with negative space and considered framing, the pieces were given room to stand out.
Natural light felt like the right choice for this project as I liked the shadows it created, adding depth and softness across the scene. I introduced a subtle warmth in the edit to support the Mediterranean-inspired styling and atmosphere, helping the final images feel calm, inviting and lived-in. This type of lifestyle product photography for makers allows work to be presented in a way that feels both authentic and approachable, showing not only the object itself but also the feeling of bringing it into everyday life.
