I recently worked with Libby Ballard Ceramics on a new shoot, capturing her pink-glazed homeware. I photographed them to highlight the craftsmanship and versatility of her handmade ceramics. These images were created for use on her website, social media, and marketplaces like Holly & Co, showcasing her handmade ceramics.
Planning and Styling for Handmade Ceramics
Before the shoot, I focused on planning simple, elegant styling and sourcing the props that highlights each piece’s detail and to give people a sense of what it would be like to have a piece of Libby Ballard Ceramics in their hands or in their homes.
The Shoot: Product and Lifestyle Images
We captured a mix of:
Clean product shots for listings, showing mugs, plates, and planters in detail
Lifestyle tablescape images, including breakfast scenes with food and coffee, demonstrating how the products can be used in everyday life
The shoot was completely remote, so Libby didn’t need to travel. She sent over the products and stayed on hand to review images throughout the day, ensuring they matched her vision.

Editing and Post-Production
After shooting, I carefully edited the images to maintain the true colours and textures of the ceramics while keeping a cohesive look across the collection. The final images not only highlight each product but also show how they fit naturally into lifestyle settings.
Why Product Photography Matters for Handmade Ceramics
Professional product photography for handmade ceramics is essential for makers and small brands looking to:
Highlight unique colours, glazes, and textures
Present products in real-life contexts through lifestyle imagery
Ensure consistency across websites, social media, and marketplace listings like Holly & Co, Etsy and Not On The High Street.
High-quality images can make your products stand out, attract more customers, and reflect the care and artistry that goes into your work.
