Wreath Making Workshop at Lime Cross Nursery, Sussex

I recently spent a festive afternoon at Lime Cross Nursery, home of The Secret Vineyard, photographing one of their seasonal wreath making workshops – and I made a wreath myself along the way.

A table full of wreaths being made with natural foliage and a glass of wine.

Capturing the process

The workshop is run by Vicky, one half of the sister duo behind The Secret Vineyard, alongside her sister Helen. Set within the nursery grounds in Sussex, the focus is on sustainable wreath making, using natural foliage foraged entirely from Lime Cross Nursery’s own conifer pinetum. Every wreath made on the day was so different, shaped by the season and the landscape it comes from.

Learning new skills

It was a brilliant space to document. Christmas jumpers were worn and festive music played in the background. Long tables were filled with greenery, with troughs of foliage laid out like a wreath-making market, where everyone gathered with wicker baskets to choose their materials. It was a calm, detail-led workshop that lent itself beautifully to photography, making for a relaxed festive shoot and capturing people fully absorbed in the process and enjoying themselves.

Look out for more events

The afternoon finished with a glass of Sussex wine from The Secret Vineyard and a mince pie, with tea and coffee available throughout.

The wreath making workshops at Lime Cross Nursery are an annual event, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for more events. A seasonal experience rooted in sustainability, set in a welcoming and thoughtful space.
